Rome opens up new vistas

Predictably, Rome has turned out to be a very productive fairground for the International exhibition of calligraphy. But it is small wonder in the country where there was first born a vibrant clear art. We had a pleasure to meet a really uncommon person – an Italian calligrapher Massimo Polello.

The most famous choreographer of Asia has brought to Moscow his ballet Cursive which was initially staged as a spectacle show depicting the philosophy and beauty of the ancient Chinese calligraphy.

The Taiwanese Cloud Gate Dance Theatre is participating in the Chekhov Festival for the third time already and always fascinates the public with an unbroken series of innovative dances. The theatre was named after a five-thousand-old ritual dance of China.

On June 1, 2009 Director of the Contemporary museum of calligraphy Alexey Shaburov and his Counsellor Ludmila Kulanina were officially met in Jerusalem by the Head of the National Library of Israel. During the meeting Director General Mr. Shmuel Har-Noy introduced to his Russian guests the heads of different library departments who told about their work. They showed invaluable illustrated medieval folio written in Hebrew, old maps of the Holy Land, ornate Ketubbot (traditional Jewish marriage contracts) made in baroque Italy.

The State Museum-Reserve of A.S. Pushkin “Mikhailovskoye” held a competition “Write Pushkin a Letter” marking the anniversary of the great Russian poet. The competition is held in the context of the project “Museum Mail” endorsed by the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation.

A graduate of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Ahmed Shahnavaz always enjoyed to give new look to a blank paper with his thoughts. At the age of 14 he came to know the illustrious artist of the world Ms. Amina Ahmed Ahuja. Her shows were organized in Moscow, Tokyo and New York. The artist’s works are a surprising combination of art and poetry by the renowned Persian writers.
