St. Petersburg Renaissance of Calligraphy

After the large-scale project “International Exhibition of Calligraphy” in the St. Petersburg Academy of Arts the art of calligraphy is keeping on acquiring more and more amateurs.
On May 5, 2009 the Record House of Youths welcomed opening of the exhibition Calligraphy of Petersburg which was organized in the context of the project Art Petersburg with support of Tretyakov’s Gallery. The exposition display included the works of the best Russian calligraphers and participants of our project.

The Day of Slavonic Writing

Svyato Cyrillici (Festival of Cyrillic): Festival of Font and Calligraphy

Svyato Cyrillici («Festival of Cyrillic») is a festival of font and calligraphy held on May 23-25 in Kharkov since 2006. This is how the festival initiators (design studio Panic design and Kharkov State Academy of Design and Arts) pay tribute to the developers of Cyrillic alphabet, SS. Cyril and Methodius. Svyato Cyrillici is the exhibition for font, seminars and opportunity to communicate on professional subjects in casual atmosphere.

Day of slavic writing and culture

On May 24 the entire Slavonic community commemorates Saints Cyril and Methodius and celebrates the Day of Slavic Writing and Culture. It is especially solemnly celebrated in Bulgaria with festive marches of Cyrillic alphabet and iconic images of the Saint Brothers. Since 1991 the day was proclaimed the official holiday in Russia and since then has been extensively celebrated in this country too.
