Calligraphy writing originated in Malaysia 700 years ago. At present time Arabic calligraphy represented by the diwani and kufi styles is widely spread in the country. This is because the majority of Malaysian population are Muslims and live in the consistent atmosphere with al-Quran and with teachings that come from the Middle East.
Calligraphy is applied in building and interior decoration, decoration of mosques, signage, books, currency, old manuscripts, etc.
