Today Sokolniki Entertainment and Recreation Park has welcomed the first Russian
Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy. Its opening is confined to the
International Exhibition of Calligraphy which will be opened on September 17th in St. Petersburg.
The exposition includes various exhibit items related to the art of lettering. Among them are fine specimens of Slavonic and European lettering, Russian and foreign books on calligraphy, limited editions of rare manuscripts, writing utensils of the past and present and elegant Hebrew calligraphy. The permanent exposition will include over 80 well-designed calligraphic art works by the visual artists from Russia, Belarus, Ukraine, Germany, France, Israel, Syria, the USA, Japan, China and masters’ apprentices.
According to the testimonials of the first visitors the warm atmosphere of the show inspires a meditative state. Every work has a profound aesthetic value and carries in itself the positive energy of the letter. It is not by chance that the words of welcome were warm and friendly.
The floor was given to the President of the
National Union of Calligraphers Petr Chobitko, and Director of Museum Alexey Shaburov.
