New projects in the framework of the International Exhibition of Calligraphy were launched today.
The new exposition “Mystery of Symbol” is created on the aesthetic and information-historical diversity of the national calligraphy schools of the world. Beside original artworks from 26 countries, the visitors will be able to enjoy calligraphic installations and performances, ancient manuscripts and rare letters, handwritten books and applied calligraphic art. Calligraphers from different continents will show their skills at master classes. Many educational events and meetings are to be held during the exhibition.
The exposition “Mystery of Symbol” will include presentation of a new project: creation of a monument dedicated to the world writing systems under the motto “E PLURIBUS UNUM” (“Out of many – one”), which is planed to open in 2010 in Paris. This unique piece of art is an integral handmade panel consisting of separate modules which represent the writing systems of the UN member countries. The project involves a task force of calligraphers each of which represents one of the participating countries. The panel will represent the unity and manysidedness of the world cultural space. The project is planned to be held under the egis of UNESCO.
