Museum’s birthday. The best moments

We were long waiting for this holiday to come. So many fine words were said about this holiday… Today it happened at last!

Director of the Contemporary Museum of Calligraphy Alexey Shaburov presented his distinguished guests: Deputy minister of cultural affairs of the Russian Federation Andrey Busygin, diplomats: ambassadors of Jerusalem, Iran, Jordan, Ukraine and many others, representatives of the European commission to Russia, cultural figures, and representatives of different confessions. Together with us the Museum’s birthday was celebrated by our colleagues: Director of the State museum n.a. A. Pushkin Mr. Bogatyrev, Director of the State museum n.a. Gogol Mrs. Vikulova, First Deputy Director General of the Eastern Arts museum Mrs. Metaksa, Head of the cultural department of Rossotrudnichestvo Mrs. Demidova, and the Art-Director of the Chinese art gallery “Chi-ne-Art on Yakimanka” Mrs. Shefer.

Expanding the good museum’s tradition – collecting the sacred calligraphy – the famous specialists of sacred texts of different confessions and cultures presented the masterpieces. So, the work “Remember not the sins of my youth…” was officially given by a representative of the Moscow Patriarchate father Georgy Roschin. A masterpiece of the Muslim calligraphy created by a calligrapher from Jordan Nassar Mansour – Quaranic surah – was presented by the Embassy Adviser for cultural affairs Mr. Hasan Al-Dabbas and the Imam of the Moscow’s Jami, member of the Russia Council of  Muftis Islam-Khazrat.

The high point of the presentation was presentation of the world-known Jerusalem manuscript – the World’s largest Mezuzah written by a famous Israeli calligraphy Avraham-Hersh Borshevsky. This scroll is by right included into the World Records Book.

The Head military rabbi of Russia Aaron Gurevich who presented the Largest Mezuzah to Russian audience said the Mezuzah is nor only an art piece, but also a sacred piece that protects the house from every evil.

“We have not yet found the door for such a mezuzah”, - joked the Rabbi.

Another important clou of the evening was the handwritten anthem of the Russian Federation. The manuscript was created by a famous Russian calligrapher Evgeny Drobyazin, and then illuminated by a world-know artist from Italy Barbara Calzolari. This July the hand-made Russian anthem was presented to President Dmitry Medvedev by Silvio Berlusconi at G8 summit in L’Aquila.

All the guests to the museum had the infrequent opportunity to watch a marvelous performance: calligraphy improvisation to music of Beethoven and Mendelssohn. The solemn ceremony was closed with a soulful violin music played by the string quartet “Gelios”.
