“With our tight schedule I can say for sure the first round was successful”, - said Petr Chobitko, the Presidium Chairman of the National Union of Calligraphers.
The artworks we receive from allover Russia and abroad prove that the contest topic couldn’t leave untouched both amateurs and recognized masters.
The finalists’ works demonstrate profound knowledge of the Holy Writ and show how skillfully they master all the modern traditions of calligraphy.
Only 23 applicants ran to the final. They made their artworks in different styles and on different media: from paper to… birch bark.
All these art pieces represent the whole range of Cyrillic scripts: reserved and superb ligature, light cursive, all written both in classical and contemporary styles.
Speaking about the contest’s influence it can’t be but mentioned, that a Cyrillic letter still has a big potential. The national endow, a Cyrillic letter demands careful attention not only from professional calligraphers.
The first, but not the least contest, will undoubtedly be rich in wonderful masterpieces.
